What To Expect
I am glad you have landed here. Finding the right therapist is crucial, and the search can be exhausting. Hopefully, after reading this page, you can determine if I am a good “match” for you. If you have tried therapy before, you know that it is about finding someone who really “gets” you, with whom you connect and can share your personal experiences and feelings.
I am an active, straightforward therapist who strives to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment while keeping it real and helping you reach your goals. You will have a different kind of conversation here with me than you do elsewhere. After all, you want results and change, and it will take work on both sides to reach those goals. We will work through it together.
Therapy is an investment. I do my best to work with clients who are dedicated and ready to invest in themselves and their lives. The quick fix does not usually result in long-term change. I work with people who want to heal, improve their relationships, and change their lives for the better.
Once you determine that I am a good fit for you, we will schedule our first session. I will then send you an email with a link to sign up for your private personalized client portal.
The first session
This session is an opportunity to complete any assessments necessary. We will talk about your goals and how we can work collaboratively in the process. I encourage you to ask questions because I want you to have a thorough understanding of how I work and feel comfortable moving to the next session.
To get the most out of therapy, I recommend weekly appointments until we feel that you’re beginning to make traction on your goals.
Who do you work with?
I see individuals and families. I work with motivated adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety and OCD, helping them feel less overwhelmed and more empowered to make effective changes for themselves. I have a limited number of sessions for families. Please see my family therapy page for a description of those services.
What kind of therapy do you do?
Your challenges and experience are unique to you, and your therapy should be too. Sometimes the focus will be on resolving current problems. Other times we will work on long-standing patterns of behavior that are not bringing the results you desire. I work with each client to help them build on their strengths and to identify and achieve life goals. Whether I am seeing an adolescent, a family, or an adult, I want to make each session impactful.
We will discuss which treatment modalities will be most effective for your particular issue(s) and for you. Several approaches I draw from are Family Systems, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I follow the Exposure and Response Prevention protocol for the treatment of OCD.
Do you take insurance?
I am a private pay, out-of-network (OON) provider, which means that I am not in-network with any insurance companies, and payment is due after each session. If you received my contact information from your insurance company, showing that I have availability for new clients with your insurance, that information is out of date.
You will be asked to provide payment information before our intake.
how do I find out what my insurance covers?
I recommend you call the phone number on your insurance card and ask your insurance:
Do you cover out-of-network providers?
What is my out-of-network deductible? How much of it has been met so far this year?
Do I need pre-authorization?
What is my co-insurance?
What services are covered (in-person, telehealth, individual/family)?
Is there a limit to the number of sessions?
What are your rates?
Please contact me for information about my rates. Fees vary depending on what type of treatment you are seeking. Most appointments are 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions are available on a pro-rated basis and sometimes are recommended for family therapy.
How do I schedule an appointment?
I handle my appointments personally. Before scheduling a first session, we want to see if I am the right therapist for you. A good fit between the client and the type of issues the therapist can treat is crucial to treatment success. The purpose of the free initial call is to see whether we should book the first session (it is not a free consultation). Case material will be discussed during the first session.
Call or email to set up an initial call.
What about payment?
I accept cash, checks, Flexible Savings Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account cards, and most credit/debit cards.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please let me know within 48 hours if an appointment needs to be canceled or rescheduled. I reserve the therapy time just for you. I limit the number of clients I choose to work with, so I can provide the best service. You will be charged the full fee for a canceled session with less than 48-hour's notice, including no-show appointments. This, of course, excludes emergencies.
